I do not know
what is going on with me - two weeks ago I was rear ended
and tonight I rear ended someone.
No obvious damage
to their car (Mercedes SUV) but there trailer hitch pushed
the front end of my car in like a huge sock in the nose.
I am having the car towed in to a repair shop tomorrow
The accident
happened at 10 pm - 2 square blocks from my house. A car
in front of the SUV stopped abruptly, they stopped abruptly,
I wasn't paying attention, and when I noticed they had stopped
I slammed on my brakes but hit them anyway. I just felt
my car go into theirs so gently with an inevitable kiss
- so strange - and as they pulled over, I could see that
there
wasn't even a mark on the back of their car - yet I knew
by the impact that my car was not so fortunate.
(retro note
- apparently the trailer hitch had some sort of damage -
a scrape - a bent plate? equal to $300 - my front end ended
up costing nearly $7,000. ! )
Life can change in a second. What a flux we live in - this
notion of of ours of stability and equilibrium in our possessions (the
things we own - including our actions - the power we wield
- the games we learn to play to to be in position - our knowledge, our bank of knowledge: can change in a flash.
I was taking
to a guy who was throwing together a charity for the family
of a friend of his.
A week earlier.
hHe and his friend were having dinner with their families
and other friends. The evening rolled to a close and his
friend a bit inebriated got a ride home with another sober
friend. On the way home, a car accident caused the death
of his friend. He didn't know when they said their goodbyes
that night, that it would be their last.
