A train of thought
– from process of painting – random thought:
Light
Jesus coming in the clouds
"Light of men"
He is the Light
He is the "Prince of
Peace"
First Biblical mention of
meteorological clouds comes in Genesis 9:12-17 – God
establishes new covenant with man and does so in symbol
of rainbow – spectrum of light – in the clouds
- a covenant of peace to not destroy the world by water.
An arc of light made spectrally visible by diffraction –
light of men – the spiritual (invisible) made visible.
Light is not seen but for how it is absorbed or reflected
by objects. We are the light of the world.
The Noahic Covenant is one
of peace after judgment of the world met out by water.
Judgement came in the clouds.
Jesus also comes in the clouds
at the right hand of power – that of Judge.
The cloud idea as war chariot
is a consistent theme prior to Hebraic imagination and on
through the Greeks, where by judgment is hurled as lightning
– destroying what it strikes.
Lightning – fire. Purification
by fire.
In Revelation, Jesus returns
in the clouds. The later judgment over the earth is met
out by fire.
Jumping tracks, another train of thought – from process
of painting –new understanding:
"Cloud" represents God’s presence but also
his "hidden-ness" – the MYSTERY –
It reveals his presence yet also conceals Him – preserving
the mystery that surrounds His nature – His essence
– His Being – the ‘I AM’.
This has changed my
approach to painting the Freedom ART Project Paintings,
where as, before, it was important to determine an essential
element to each of the Biblical books – it still is
– now as application it is important to preserve the
quality of mystery and allowing for imaginative and contemplative
discovery.
